TULIPS The exact origin of tulips is lost. They were derived from wild species native to Persia and Turkey, and first recorded about 1550. Around 1630, tulips were traded in Holland, Exchanges sprang up and high prices were paid for bulbs. Sometime in late 1655 or 1660 they were brought to America (New Amsterdam) and the cost became minimal and tulips are now a favorite of every gardener. |
