POPPIES

The poppies are natives of Europe, eastern Asia, and North America, and belong to the family Papaveraceae. The word Papaver is the ancient Latin name for the Poppy. Poppies vary greatly in size, from the tall Oriental to the low growing Alpine Poppy.
